This chutney is an easy and tasty accompaniment to iddly, dosa and vada. It's mild and creamy, adding more chilli will make it more spicier.
to grind:
1/2 cup shredded coconut
1 handful roasted gram
3 dry red chillies
to season:
2 small onion (shallots,sambar,vengayam)
few curry leaves
few sprigs coriander leaves
3 tsp oil
1/4 tsp mustard seed
1/2 tsp urud dal
Method:
1. Grind the coconut, roasted gram/kadalai and red chillies with a little water to a fine paste. Transfer it to a dish.
2. Heat oil in a pan (med/low), add the mustard seeds and urud dal.
3. After the mustard seed splutters and urud dal turns a shade of brown, add the chopped onion and curry leaves, stir it till the onion turns brown, now add the coriander leaves.
4. Pour this contents over the ground coconut, add salt and stir it well.
